Radiant heating systems

Radiant heating systems
Radiant heat is an even type of heat that is radiated into living spaces by electric elements, hot water or steam. A radiant heating system supplies heat directly to the ceiling, wall or floor of a building.

Radiant heating has two types of systems:

  • Electric radiant systems
  • Hydronic radiant systems

An electric radiant system has a system of electric foils or cables hidden above ceilings or beneath floors or electric-resistance wall registers or baseboards. An electric current generates heat through a foil, cable or resistance element into a room.

A hydronic radiant system has a central boiler that heats water. The heated water or steam from the boiler circulates through pipes in the walls, ceiling or floor to room radiators. These room radiators provide warmth in rooms of homes and offices.
